Waist Loss
My one year mission to lose my waist instead of weight

Sick of my belly!

I’ve had it! I’ve been lazy, greedy and fat for way too long. It is time for me to get rid of my belly. I’ve decided to chronicle my journey here and I need your help.

I have realized that there is absolutely no way that I can do this alone. I’ve tried and it just doesn’t work for me. So I will post here often to share my feelings, my progress and most horribly, my pictures. I’m guessing that if I embarrass myself enough by showing my fat belly in public, I’ll be motivated to do something about it.

I really want as many comments and suggestions as possible, especially if you or a loved one has undergone a body transformation like the one that I am attempting. Nutrition, exercise and mental fortitude are all things that I will need help with and I am counting on you to help. Please bookmark mark this site or add it to del.icio.us sothat you remember to come back often. And tell your friends. They might know a professional that might be willing to chime in from time to time.

My main goal is to lose at least 15″ (yes inches) from my waist by the end of 2007. That’s why this is call waist loss instead of weight loss. I figure if I lose the belly, the rest of the weight loss should follow along. My current waist measurement at the belly button is 56 inches. Now for the horrible part. Here is my “before” picture…Beginning waist loss - 56 inch waist

Ok, it’s time to get started. I’m going to eat my cheerios with protein powder.

Type to ya soon!!

Neil

  1. Neil, I will be the first to lend my support! If you have the willpower and motivation you can definitley do it!

I will follow along your progress, and lend support as much as possible.

Good luck, and here’s to “waisting away!” :)

  2. Thanks! I really appreciate your support! I will definitely check out your blog for tips.

  3. Not a problem, I have know what its like, so I am glad to lend support!

  4. Hi Neil:

Welcome to the club! Since you are just getting started I would recommend thinking about your plan in terms of adopting a healthier approach to living your life, rather than “dieting”. What has worked well for me is focusing on all of the delicious, healthy food that I can eat. A few tips I can share with you are:

    1) Small dietary changes really do work. If you drink regular soda everyday, try switching to diet; or think about ways to eliminate a few extra calories from each meal.
    2) Exercise doesn’t have to be strenuous to provide benefits. A brisk walking pace can really elevate your heart rate without making you burned out. Get a heart rate monitor. I swear by mine!
    3) Try to drink a lot of water, at least 60 ounces per day.
    4) Rather than eliminating fall fattening foods from your diet, try to downsize the fattening stuff and increase the healthy stuff like eating more fruits, vegetables and whole grains. I have a rule that I don’t eat candy or cookies at work. Then I eat my dessert every night after dinner.
Anyway, I could go on forever. I really wish you the best and I’m sure you can do it!

  5. Thanks Alexa. I am trying to put these ideas into practice but it’s hard, especially when I do catering.

  6. Alexa, very good advice!

Neil, you are in caterine, eh? Here is a trick that might help… if you find yourself nibbling here and there, in addition to thinking about what it might be doing to your waist, you might think it in terms of “eating your profits?”

I know a coupld of guys that owned restaurants, and this method seemed to work for them. One of them actually logged the little bits he ate for a week, and calculated the “cost” of what he ate in real dollars!

  7. Thanks for stopping by my own blog….I’m with you all the way on this one!

  8. Thank you Ella! I appreciate the support. Let’s do this together.

  9. Congrats on the Picture. I posted one of me naked and pissed off my son and became a cult figure for the feeder – feedie homosexual subculture as by belly exceeded the other sex symbols at youtube.

I hope you are in this for the long haul because of weight plateaus and the slow speed that your body changes shape. So never give up Hope.

After dropping 30 pounds in a couple of months (not unusual when you’re obese) I had still only lost 2 inches off my waste. Now after holding the 30 pound loss for another 3 months, my waste is down 5 inches and I’m finally below the limit for deadly abdominal obesity although still offically obese.

I compromised with the cave drawing like image of the Fat Savage so no new pictures for now to prove the claim.

  10. Good luck to you! With any luck, 2007 will be a great year!

Thanks for visiting my site, I’ll be sure to stop in when I can to see how you’re doing…

  11. Neil,

Great Blog. Good luck on achieving your goals.

I went through the process of going from overweight (technically I was “clinically obese”) to now being very fit, and I tell you that the process your going through is hard by well worth it. I think that Alexa, Middle Manager, and others here on WordPress will be a great inspiration and support mechanism.

If you want to here my story you can read part 1 of it here, and part 2 of it here.

I will keep reading your blog and wishing you good luck in your journey.

One small piece of advice I would give, and I’m sure you’ve heard this from others, and I’ll admit, that I didn’t actually follow this advice when I first lost my weight… is to consider some kind of event that you want to achieve. It could be a race like running a half-marathon a century bike ride, or a triathlon; or it could be something else challenging but not necessarily a race (like climbing a mountain).

One reason I suggest this is that when the “dieting” or the “gym workouts” get boring and you ask yourself “why” you can have a goal to look forward to that isn’t about weight-loss, but is instead about achieving something that many people never even attempt. This can get you through tough times when your weight doesn’t continue to drop, but your fitness is still improving.

Anyway, good luck! I’m rooting for you!

  12. Well thanks for leaving a message for me. AND what can I say? I think you are beautiful in the beginning photo. Try not to hate yourself. I hope you achieve what you want without becoming afflicted with an eating disorder like so many of us out here. Have fun! :) kristin

  13. Believe me I ain’t trying to be skinny. I just want to get rid of the roll around the middle.

  14. Want to start your private office arms race right now?

I just got my own USB rocket launcher :-) Awsome thing.

Plug into your computer and you got a remote controlled office missile launcher with 360 degrees horizontal and 45 degree vertival rotation with a range of more than 6 meters – which gives you a coverage of 113 square meters round your workplace.

Check out the video they have on the page.
